How encrypted backup works
Backups let you restore chats on a new device without us being able to read them.
- 1
Two keys
Your access key identifies your credits. Your backup key encrypts your chats and is never sent anywhere.
- 2
Encrypted before upload
Each change is encrypted in your browser with AES-256 and uploaded. We store only scrambled data.
- 3
Restored with your code
Your recovery code carries both keys, so a new device can download the backup and unlock it locally.
